Wee Carson by Ysolda Teague

Wee Carson is another really gorgeous baby pattern from the wee Ones book by Ysolda - I just had to get the book after seeing the collection of patterns, I need to knit them all at some point!

This pattern has so many details: provisional cast-on, 3 needle bind-off, folded hems, picking up stitches, i-cord edging, colour work, steeking, zips, ribbons... I'd say it was a perfect practise piece for the adventurous colour knitter. I've not steeked in anger before so this was a good opportunity to try it out. The colourwork is knit in the round with the bottom being the steek, so it's not a long cut. I also had to sew in a zip, and this went a lot better than the first zip I sewed in! I covered the zip in the cutest "home grown" ribbon which I'm convinced was not a meter long since I only had about 4 inches left after sewing on just over the zip (it was a 10 inch zip...).

Even though this is a pretty complex pattern for a baby cardigan and probably wouldn't become a go-to pattern for a quick knit, I want to make it in different colours so much! The baby this is for is of unknown sex, and I'm desperate to do a blue version with the leftovers from Sally and Mark's blanket for the next one!
